love or leave it

I employed a sophisticated rhetorical figure known as "zeugma"

All the other verbs are infinitive, so in the name of keeping all the verbs the same (parallelism) then it should be "love it".

thank you for everyones input ; )

Morris' magic beans and the well oiled machine

Imag0458
Wowza...

We had quite the planting crew Saturday. From the world weary to the bright eyed, we had an eclectic bunch of gardeners ready to dig in! I don't like to liken humans to machines very often, given the much ballyhooed approach of the singularity. But we operated like one mean machine!

Check out the Vid to see how the Growers Guild roll it out. We were planting almost a thousand leeks in under an hour! Now that's what I call efficiency.

By my count and by the fact that we ran short at 4000' feet of drip tape... we're at roughly 5000 linear feet of annual crops. Think generously and say a plant a foot... that is a lot of green. We seeded in lemon cukes, yellow zukes, and a whole bunch of Zea Mays among other annuals.

Our newest volunteer Morris came out Saturday and shared some of his heirloom beans he apparently picked up from a lady in the middle of a park in BC somewhere. I think there's a shady story here. Be sure to ask him about it! It's great to have him on board.

We have some great news from the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences! We have been alloted an additional 3/4 acre for cultivation.

Mr. Barry Irving with the Faculty of ALES was on site in the flesh spreading a good helping of composted manure and discing the new field in preparation for our potato crop. This is great news for us and will give us some much needed space for expansion. Check out Barry in his John Deere.

ROTOTILLER REPAIR

Anyone willing to take a stab at fixing the smaller rototiller?  Bring out a few tools and give it a try. The pull start appears to be jammed. May be an easy fix for anyone who is familiar with this problem.

See you all Sat.!

Cold Crop Success

VIDEO0008.3gp Watch on Posterous

Mission Accomplished. Marshall promised and delivered. Thanks to everyone who showed up tonight and fought off the hoardes of mosquitoes. Golden beets, Rainbow carrots, and Sugar Ann snap peas will be your reward!

To us doubters in the crowd. The Wine grapes have begun to leaf out... So maybe we can grow wine grapes in Alberta after all.

Wednesday will be sunny now so we will try to get the irrigation lines installed. Things are looking great out there, thanks to all the hard effort of everybody in this busy season!

Two special mentions this evening:

1. Jim has managed to irrigate our early lettuce and spinach crops so well that they have germinated and are growing vigorously.

Imag0327

2. Roman has simgle handely tilled most of the remaining weedy areas around the plot.

 Good Growing,

Thanks to everyone who was out! The perennials are in. The first sowing of lettuce, swiss chard, beets and carrots were rain sowed by Rodney, Jim and Marshall; as in while it was raining. For those of you who missed it... there will be lots more work next week! The garlic crop is looking great.

We expect the main field to be tilled up and ready for additional planting of the early crops: Carrots, beets, broccoli, lettuce etc... Dont be shy, Wednesday at 6:00pm and Saturday at 10:00am.
